CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

GREETINGS FROM THE ASIS PHOENIX CHAPTER!

Thank you for your patience and understanding while the Board used the first month of 2019 to focus on revisioning the size, scale and scope of our event, education and certification programs for the coming year. In seeking ways to provide informative, practical and engaging programing, we arrived at the conclusion that “less is more”. Let’s take meetings for example. We will be moving from a monthly to a bi-monthly meeting format to add more value to the continuing education piece. The reasoning is that by providing six two-hour blocks of continuing education we can bring in high quality speakers to drill down on a topic or issue and provide the types of practical takeaways and tools security professionals can put to use immediately. You get the same number of CEUs over the course of the year, in fewer doses and in higher quality. We are also holding our meetings in one central location and at the same time of day for consistency’s sake. We chose to go to a “happy hour” time window in hopes more members could get away at the end of the day, and we were also offered a great deal at one of the trendiest spots in town with a great meeting space.

Likewise, we are revisiting the size, scale and scope of the Southwest Security Conference. Rather than having multiple tracks and a dozen speakers, we are focusing on several keynote-quality speakers on topics relevant to all security professionals. We will be aligning with ASIS International in bringing the topics of digital convergence and ESRM to life through those who have lived it. We also plan on making it a truly regional conference by inviting other nearby chapters from Las Vegas, San Diego and New Mexico. Again, our hope is that less will be more.

Charities and community outreach are other areas we are revisiting. For the third year in a row, our chapter has crossed the stage at GSX to accept the Community Service Award from ASIS International. In the past, we have relied on a tireless committee chair and a core group of volunteers to donate their time and energy on multiple occasions. This year we want to involve more members in fewer events and have an even greater impact on our community! We are also scaling down from two golf outings a year to one spectacular golf tournament. Again, less will be more.

This could all be a smashing success…or an epic fail. But you don’t get ahead by playing it safe. So, come out and support the chapter. If you’ve fallen off the ASIS Phoenix grid we would like to welcome you back. If you are looking to retool and adapt to managing risk in a hyperconnected world, you’ve come to the right place. Apply for chapter membership or renew your dues now.

Stay safe everyone.
